Decrypter Virus

In the past week or so, there has been a nasty virus that is infecting computer systems all over the world. It normally is deployed via a zip file in an email. This virus encrypts your word, excel and PDF files so that you cannot open them at all. It infects your local computer as well as every document on the network in which you are the author. It corrupts the file. There will be a popup on your screen which basically tells you either pay me $300 or restore your files from backup. I have done some research on this and apparently if you pay the guy the $300 through paypal, he will actually decrypt the files for you! (How nice of him). Unfortunately this is not something that anti-virus is currently picking up because it’s not really doing anything out of the ordinary. The best thing to do is stay educated and don’t open ANY emails if you do not know who the sender is. For additional information, please give us a call at 516-320-6828.
